The information contained in this table is derived from annual returns made to the Scottish Government by Scottish local authority social work departments. The returns give details of the following orders : community payback orders (CPOs), drug treatment and testing orders (DTTOs) and the three legacy orders which are being replaced by CPOs. CPOs were introduced by the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 and came into effect from 1 February 2011. A CPO can only be imposed in respect of offence(s) committed on or after 1 February 2011. The CPO can have one or more of 9 separate requirements, though each order needs to contain one, other or both of supervision and unpaid work. DTTOs were introduced to some areas in 2004-05 and have since been rolled out to all areas.
The data is considered of good quality. It is obtained from recording systems which local authorities use for case management and internal monitoring. The data has, in addition, been extensively quality assured by the Scottish Government via a series of validation processes prior to publication.
Data at local authority and community justice authority level is also available from http://www.gov.scot/Topics/Statistics/Browse/Crime-Justice/Datasets.
The returns from local authorities give a more complete picture of criminal justice social work activity. For example, while criminal proceedings data provides details of orders given by courts, this only covers orders given as a penalty of first disposal and misses out those which, for example, are given as a penalty for fine default.
It is the aim to publish Criminal Justice Social Work Statistics as soon as possible after the end of the financial year in question. As a large volume of data is collected at unit level for community payback orders, this normally happens between 10 to 11 months after the end of the financial year to which they relate.
This is a linked data resource: it has a permanent unique uri at which both humans and machines can find it on the Internet, and which can be used an identifier in queries on our SPARQL endpoint.
Linked Data is stored in graphs. We keep dataset contents (the data) separately from the metadata, to make it easier for you to find exactly what you need.
