Number of admissions to non-psychiatric/non-obstetric hospitals in Scotland. Information presented is for patients treated as inpatients or day cases only. The year shown refers to the year of discharge from hospital.
During a spell in hospital a patient may be transferred between consultants or hospitals - this can generate more than one hospital record - in such cases a patient is counted only once if they have multiple mentions of a particular diagnosis during the same spell in hospital. However, if a patient has more than one spell in hospital in the year with a particular diagnosis, each spell is counted separately in the figures shown.
Coronary Heart Disease is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (I20:I25). Cerebrovascular Disease is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (I60:I69, G45). Cancer is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (C00:C97). Respiratory Disease is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (J00:J99, R09.1). Disease of the Digestive system is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (K00:K93). Accidents is defined using the International Classification of Diseases Volume 10 (ICD10) codes (V01-X59, X85-Y35).
This slice of multidimensional data is not a Linked Data resource in the database: it's a virtual resource (i.e. you can't query it by SPARQL). But does have a permanent unique URL which can be bookmarked.
